I read almost exclusively Alt-lit from Apocalypse party, Amphetamine Sulphate, etc. basically anything that my weird little niche bookshop hawks or appears on Dennis Cooper’s blog.
I know! Bret Ellis and Chuck P's gayness goes underappreciated. Sometimes I completely forget about it! But it was definitely more of a secret back in the day that they were gay. And the books weren't really about gay guys. Cooper seems different, more explicitly gay. Maybe I'll read him
“hucksters of straightness like Jordan Peterson or JD Vance” 🔥
Great piece son ....thanks.

Thank you so much!
Late to the party, but: great essay!
Thank you! And you've just highlighted an advantage of Substack: essays keep finding readers long after they're first published. It's never too late!

This was fascinating. I've read a lot of BEE but never Cooper. I want to give him a shot.
You should! I’d recommend God Jr or The Marbled Swarm to start
